SHANELLE GABRIEL is a poet, singer, and advocate for Lupus that has toured both nationally and internationally, hitting cities from LA to Vancouver to South Africa. She is widely known for both opening and featuring on HBO's Def Poetry Jam alongside Jill Scott and DMX and has also shared the stage with artists such as Eric Benet, Talib Kweli, and more. She's performed at numerous walks for Lupus, spoken at the National Press Room for the National Institute of Health, performed at Capital Hill and Lupus Research conferences, and has been featured in several publications including Women's Health Magazine regarding her life as an artist with Lupus.
Before I knew of Shanelle I did not even know what Lupus was. Even though it effects so many people and particularly in the African American community. Upon hearing her story and participating in her journey I have become so aware of the disease, and have made a conscious effort to raise awareness of the people around me.
