Ssebandeke Ashiraf has fifteen years' experience in sickle cell advocacy with a focus on improving the quality of life of people living with sickle cell disease in rural areas. Currently, Ashiraf is the Co-founder and Executive Director of Action Against Sickle Cell Disease not for profit sickle cell advocacy organization in Uganda. His organization works with communities affected by sickle cell disease to bring access to healthcare as well as focusing on sickle cell screening. He is a 2019 Young African Leadership Initiative Fellow He is Uganda’s country representative and Kampala correspondent for African Sickle Cell News and World Report – Nigeria. He is a recipient of 2015 International Sickle Cell Advocate of the Year Award from Sickle Cell 101, USA and 2018 Most Outstanding Achievement Award from Makerere University Business School in recognition of his leadership and sickle cell advocacy. Ashiraf desires to improve the quality of life of people living with sickle cell disease through the creation of point of care inform of sickle cell clinics. He is committed to realizing a sickle cell free generation through providing sickle cell screening services and helping every person to know their sickle cell status.
