Perry N Halkitis, Ph.D., M.S., MPH is Dean and Professor of Biostatistics and Heath Education/Behavioral Science at the School of Public Health at Rutgers University. Dr. Halkitis’ program of research examines the intersection between the HIV epidemic, drug abuse, and mental health burden, and the biological, behavioral, psychosocial, and structural factors that predispose these overlapping epidemics. CHIBPS (www.chibps.org), the research center he founded, conducts cutting-edge bio-behavioral studies, serves as a training site for the next generation of scholars, and partners with community agencies to conduct studies for and with the LGBT population.
Dr. Perry Halkitis is a pioneer in the field of HIV/AIDS research. As tenured faculty at NYU, he has worked tirelessly to study the biopsychosocial effects of the HIV/AIDS epidemic as it relates to drug use in the gay community. More recently, he has studied the resiliencies of the aging HIV/AIDS population through his book, The AIDS Generation. — Kristen
