I was diagnosed with Stage 3b Rectal Cancer in April 2010 at the age of 26, with no prior illnesses or family history. Now, 9 years, 1 recurrence, 2 major surgeries (including complete rectal resection, permanent colostomy, coccyx removal, complete hysterectomy, complete vaginectomy with external pelvic reconstruction), 3 different chemo regimens (2 years worth), and 28 pelvic radiation treatments later I have very thankfully been NED since June 06, 2012. Since finding my advocacy voice in June 2018, I have shared my story and bared my body and bag in The Colon Club's 2019 edition of "On The Rise" which focuses on the epidemic of those diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer under the age of 50. I have become an Ally with the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, traveling to Houston, TX to attend the 2018 National Conference, and joining FightCRC in Washington, DC during March 2019 for "Call On Congress" where we stormed to the Hill asking for change. Next, I am heading to Winter Park, CO to join FightCRC for their "Climb For A Cure" where we are climbing Mt. Flora to raise awareness for this bully of a disease. In September, I will also have the opportunity to travel to Boston, MA to attend the CCA's 2019 National Conference where I can, again, share my story and learn the stories of others. Along with being an advocate for Colorectal Cancer, I am passionate about breaking the stigmas and stereotypes of living with an ostomy. I was a ballerina before diagnosis and having a colostomy has not kept me off my toes. I love to live and live to love just as much as I love fighting for the causes that are so close to my heart.
