I am thrilled to be nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award. I have been an IBS sufferer since I was diagnosed as a teenager. I began my advocacy in the 1980's due to a lack of knowledge in the public about IBS. In 1995 I launched the first website on the internet about IBS. My first IBS community led me to researchers and pharmaceuticals looking for patients to be involved in clinical studies and to the media to help them understand an IBS patient's perspective. I testified to the FDA several times on behalf of patients related to new treatment options. Patients have told me that they have benefited from the knowledge that I share. This makes me very proud and keeps my advocacy going.
