I wrote scholarly essays and literary fiction long before I developed multiple sclerosis and IBS. My approach to writing about chronic illness is filtered through the same literary themes as my former writing: god, sex, love and death. In other words, I am spiritual, carnal, passionate about the people I love, and mortal. Whether I write investigative, personal, or combination pieces, I will always emphasize what it feels like to be alive in these times as a physically and financially challenged but fully human observer of our culture, feelings, and ideas. My personal essays are very, very personal. My aim is to reach the most isolated people with such detail so they don't feel so alone.
