Melissa

Patient Leader

I am a wife, a mother, a daughter and a friend. I have been a Migraineur for 34 years. A Chronic Migraineur for over 25 years. In September of 2010 a migraine left me bedridden for close to 2 years with stroke like symptoms. I had a Neurostimulator implanted in September of 2012. I am determined to RAISE AWARENESS, but most of all give HOPE to fellow migraineurs. I am an Advocate and wish to Educate, Inform and Give Support to Migraineurs anyway I can. I hope to learn as much as I can about this disease, connect with neurologist, other doctors, therapist, other advocates, and attend as many conferences and migraine functions as possible, to gain as much knowledge and show as much support as I can. I am one of the Administrators of a Face Book Support Group called "The Many Faces of Migraine", which has grown to 1,600 members in just 7 short months. The members have become family to me. I will do anything for my family! Melissa is a wonderful advocate for the treatment of chronic migraines. Her caring nature and kind words never go unnoticed. Also, her work trying to help migraine sufferers get a neurostimulator is substantial. She is a True Hero! Melissa Lorello is the moderator of the Facebook page: "The Many Faces of Migraines". In this group of approx. 1500 members, Melissa adds new members on a near daily basis. She encourages healthy conversation and for members to post about questions or concerns they are having. She has gone so far as to provide her personal contact info to the group in case of an emergency. Melissa is truly passionate, and care deeply about the members on this page, their well being, and helping to spread awareness. It is a BIG task managing this on your own, but Melissa devotes her time and energy to it, while also struggling with her own pain. Please consider Melissa for this nomination. Thanks!  — Stephanie

The Many Faces of Migraine is a migraine support group for those that suffer from migraines and other headache disorders. It has reached 1600 members in just 7 short months. I believe the reason for the success of this group is due solely because of the members! We have the best members EVER! We strive to make it a positive, supportive, educational and a safe place for everyone. Most of all we try to pick everyone up and let them know there is HOPE out there! And because of the Members providing their stories, the links they find and support to others, I believe that this is just the beginning of The Many Faces of Migraine!  — Melissa

I am nominating Melissa Lorello for Rookie of the Year. She has chosen to devote her life to raising awareness and rallying support around the chronic disease that is migraines. As a migraine sufferer, herself, Melissa knows first hand the struggles that accompany the pain of migraines. She selflessly provides for those who share in the disease, allowing her own pain to be visible to those who follow her on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc… She shares with such vulnerability, as evidenced by some of her past and recent posts on her YouTube Channel. She is not one to show the "finished product," i.e. only share with her followers when she is feeling well. Instead, she shares some of her most painful moments and by doing so, she provides hope and camaraderie for the migraine community. She is truly remarkable.  — Chelsea

Melissa's exhibited tireless devotion to the members of the ManyFaces headache/migraine forum. Whether it's listening to someone for hours, joining, and respectfully moderating, a conversation where tempers are elevating, or just providing a 'smiling' voice to those who are in a lot of pain, and could really use that to help get through the day (or night).  — Lou

She administers a site for Migraine support. She is there for all of us with advice, an ear, a hug, anything she can to support us. She too suffers from Chronic Migraines.  — Cynthia
