Shawntel Bethea

Patient Leader

My name is Shawntel Bethea. I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis at 17 years-old. Now at 25, I live life without a Colon, Rectum, and Appendix! I write and blog about my life, IBD and even Mental Health, as my mother was diagnosed with Schizophrenia when I was very young. I am a passionate patient advocate working to improve my advocacy efforts daily. I write for IBD News and CrohnsDisease (dot) com. I am also a member of the Patient Advisory Council of Improve Care Now and recently joined the Break Through Crew. I look forward to seeing what the future holds: #WeNeedACure

I’m recognizing Shawn because her job does an amazing job representing the IBD community. IMO, She gives the patient perspective, mixed with factual information, for a great balance that is easy to read for all ages and diagnosis stages.  — Angela
