I have made it my purpose in life to bring more awareness to IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) which includes Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis. I have Crohn's disease and have lost my colon because of it. I am particularly focused on explaining the different surgeries one with these diseases may be faced with. Surgeries which are in no way a cure for them. I advocate for minimally invasive surgeries and highly encourage those faced with going under the knife to identify a surgeon who will perform this type of surgery when possible. In addition, I have taken on the goal of swimming 24 miles across Lake Erie to raise money and awareness for IBD. I made my first attempt July of 2013 and after swimming 6 miles had to abandon it due to several factors. My 2nd attempt will be Summer 2014.
Ryan is awesome. He is very involved with IBD advocacy and awareness. He attends events, blogs, hosts twitter chats and supports the IBD community. It has been an honor getting to know him and seeing his passion for helping others with IBD. — Aaron
