I am a Roman-Catholic priest from Germany working since 17 years in South Africa. Being overwhelmed by the extend of HIV and AIDS in the country, I founded together with a pediatric doctor the organization HOPE Cape Town which focuses on HIV - AIDS and children as well as families. From vegetable garden, early childhood development till academic research we try to cover every aspect of HIV and children and giving them a chance to live life to the fullest. Being a priest I also consider HIV a sign of the time stipulating a change in area in moral theology, working with priests being HIV-positive, advocating to turn stigma into blessings. A topic not always welcome in my church.
Rev Fr Stefan Hippler has made a huge impact in the field of HIV/Aids and TB. As the founder of HOPE Cape Town, he has personally ensured that the organisation remains strong and has grown in the last 10 years. The organisation remains well funded and well managed largely through his efforts and oversight. — Fahim
